Last outpost of crazy: Agenda 21 paranoia

Environmentalism (the interest in having and maintaining a healthy natural environment) is one of the biggest successes of 1960's liberals. It has energized many people and found solid support with a large majority. Here in Massachusetts, people are happy about the creation of conservation lands and public parks.

Elsewhere in the US, any environmental initiative, including the creation of bike lanes, is seen as part of the Agenda 21 conspiracy for world domination...

I'm basically speechless about this one. To these paranoids, caring about nice surroundings means that you're a puppet of our new world overlords. I guess you can't do anything to help your community lest you be accused of betraying all-American ideals.

Some nut ref'd Agenda 21 on a recent news item about sea level rise. Crazy is the word.

Science works as a great antidote for crazy, but evidently mostly for those who understand science. I read something interesting about sea level rise--a considerable part of it is due to expansion of the water as it warms. But there will be a big wallop if the Greenland ice sheet melts substantially.

Sometimes I wish we could deny the benefits of science to those who don't believe in it, primarily as a lesson in consequences. But it's not going to happen and I wouldn't actually support it.

You must ask yourself," why do we need more environmental protection than the EPA is now providing? The UN has no business, regardless of how harmless, sticking its nose into the USA. Simple as that

I'm not sure whether or not we need more environmental protection because it's not an area of expertise for me. However, I'm happy to learn about good ideas no matter who their source is, and that includes the UN. Why rule out anything that comes from the UN? It's very clear that the UN can't force us to do anything, so massive fear or anger at the UN doesn't make sense.

So, Anon, you must ask YOURSELF: shouldn't you judge ideas on their merits, not where they come from? There's an easy answer to that one.

BTW, I practice what I preach. I consider proposals from all kinds (conservatives, moderates, libertarians, liberals, etc.) You should too.
